Welcome to division for Electricity

Electric power generation and electromagnetic energy conversion

The basic education as well as the research in this area is focused on environmentally friendly industrial applications of Maxwell’s electromagnetic equations and of other basic physical laws in conventional and complementary electromagnetic systems for production and distribution of electric power and for energy storage systems.

The energy area is one part of the research within the division for electricity, which traditionally has been focusing on problems related to atmospheric discharges, especially lightning discharges and their influence on electric power, telecommunications and electronic systems.

Research at our division also comprise development of effective protection methods against electrical transients caused both by natural and man-made phenomenon, applied plasma, theoretical plasma physics, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and diamond electronics. All just a part of our many research areas.

Beside the scientific capabilities and experimental facilities, the division has close co-operation with other research groups and scientific organisations around the world.
